With a rich history The City of Mesa has a deep well to draw heritage from. Located about 20 miles east of Phoenix, Mesa is the home to 439,000 people and growing. Originally founded as a Mormon settlement in AZ, Daniel Webster Jones left St. George, UT in 1877. In the early 1940's Mesa saw military personnel begin to move into the area with the opening of Falcon Field and Williams Field. As of the late 60's, half of the residents of Mesa made a living with agriculture but this has declined substantially as Mesa's suburban growth continued on track with the rest of the Phoenix metro area.
